Anthony J Sargeant reflects on the consequences of religious belief.

Belief in a hereafter where ‘your’ God rewards you for deeds committed in your lifetime has led to some terrible evils: Christian crusades in which Jews and Muslims were slaughtered in the name of a ‘Christian God’; pogroms of Jews  through the ages; Islamic suicide bombers (that is murderers) who expect to be rewarded in the after-life; Christians who murder obstetricians and gynaecologists in abortion clinics; Israeli Jews who together with the Lebanese Christians were responsible for the murder and rape of thousands of Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps; the litany could go on.

And, dear reader, please note: These examples are all taken from the ‘Abrahamic’ religions whose followers worship the same God of Abraham – apparently.
